Carbon Standards International (CSI) has received conditional endorsement from the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA) for its carbon certification standard. This endorsement applies to carbon sinks registered in the Global C-Sink Registry with a validated project design document. This recognition enhances trust and expands distribution opportunities.
CSI, based in Frick, Aargau, ensures that only carbon sinks with complete public documentation are recognized by ICROA, headquartered in Geneva. Projects without full documentation are placed in a separate Global C-Sink Transition Registry. CSI plans to merge both registries by March 2025, aiming for all carbon sinks to have public documentation.
Despite the transitional phase, CSI assures the quality of its carbon sinks, which are inspected by CERES, an international certification body operating in Germany and Frick. ICROA’s conditional endorsement marks a significant milestone, boosting confidence in the reliability of CSI’s standards. This endorsement supports CSI’s mission to scale carbon sinks through innovative projects, bringing them closer to their goal of expanding carbon sink initiatives.
This development highlights Switzerland’s role in advancing global carbon certification standards and contributes to the broader efforts in carbon reduction and environmental sustainability.
