Carbon Standards International AG, based in Aargau, Switzerland, has launched the Global Tree C-Sink. This new standard certifies the climate performance of trees by measuring the amount of CO2 they absorb and store. The certification provides a transparent platform for registering and trading carbon sinks.

The Global Tree C-Sink includes annual health checks for trees, ensuring species diversity and native tree conservation. It is based on sustainable forestry, prohibiting practices that lead to deforestation and forest degradation.

TREEO Cooling, a Stuttgart-based company, has been certified to this standard since November 2023. It won the Gold German Innovation Award 2024 for this achievement. The jury called it “a truly convincing standard that promises to make a ground-breaking difference in global carbon offset assessment.”

Carbon Standards International also offers other standards for carbon sinks, biochar, and global cooling. These standards aim to build a new carbon sink economy.

The company’s new standard provides a secure way to measure and trade carbon sinks, contributing to the fight against climate change.
