Swiss retailer Denner partners with Romande Energie to source electricity from an agrivoltaic plant in western Switzerland. Romande Energie will supply Denner with power from a solar facility to be constructed in Conthey, generating 600 MWh annually, ample for 240 households. The 3,700-square-metre area will shield strawberries and raspberries from inclement weather.
The power deal is set to commence by mid-2025, with Denner committing to purchase all electricity from the new plant for its operations. This move aims to reduce Denner’s carbon footprint and accelerate its shift towards renewable energy, aligning with the broader push for sustainability.
The project, facilitated by Swiss agrivoltaic technology firm Insolight, underscores the growing trend of businesses supporting local sustainable initiatives. This initiative highlights Denner’s commitment to environmental responsibility while embracing innovative solutions for energy consumption.
