Swiss Airlines, based in Zurich, and the Lufthansa Group have joined hands with Climeworks, a pioneering start-up, to combat carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Climeworks, a Zurich-based company born out of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, specializes in direct air capture (DAC) technology, which removes CO2 from the atmosphere.
The collaboration, set to last until 2030, marks a significant step towards achieving net-zero emissions goals for both airlines. Swiss Airlines aims to promote innovative technologies in Switzerland while contributing to environmental sustainability.
Swiss CEO Dieter Vranckx expresses pride in being the first airline to partner with Climeworks, highlighting sustainability as a priority for the company. Jan Huckfeldt, Climeworks’ Chief Commercial Officer, emphasizes the importance of such partnerships in addressing the aviation industry’s demand for effective CO2 reduction solutions.
The agreement underscores a shared commitment to environmental responsibility and signifies progress towards a more sustainable aviation sector.
