The city  St. Gallen is offering e-cargo bikes to businesses and groups for free for one year. This effort, named Sankt Pedalo, is not new. It started in 2021 and had another successful year in 2022. The goal is to test how these electric bikes can help in daily work instead of using cars or trucks. This year, the program is back in spring with 10 e-cargo bikes available. Applications are open until March 8.

The city first tried this in 2021 with 10 local organizations. They all used the e-cargo bikes for various tasks. After positive feedback, St. Gallen decided to continue the project. This year, they aim to include a wide range of industries to see how different sectors can benefit from using these bikes.

These bikes are designed to carry up to 150 kilograms and are seen as a green and efficient way to move goods around the city. They also fit into St. Gallen’s long-term goal of promoting e-mobility to make the city more sustainable by 2050. After the trial, companies can buy the bikes at a discount or return them if they don’t need them. This project is part of St. Gallen’s efforts to create a more sustainable, innovative way of transporting goods and materials in the city.
