On, a Swiss sportswear brand, introduced LightSpray, a new technology for making running shoes. This technology, developed in Zurich, uses a robotic arm to create a single-piece upper in one step. The process reduces carbon emissions by 75% compared to traditional methods and uses recyclable materials.

The first shoe to use LightSpray is the Cloudboom Strike LS. This ultra-light shoe is designed to improve performance with its seamless upper. The automated process minimizes waste and eliminates the need for laces, making it ideal for competitive sports.

LightSpray’s manufacturing process is fast and efficient. The robotic arm creates the upper in one step, reducing production time and emissions. The process also allows for rapid prototyping and customization. This innovation marks a significant step towards sustainable manufacturing in the sportswear industry.

On plans to showcase this technology with live demonstrations in Paris. The Cloudboom Strike LS, initially released in April, will be available again in Fall/Winter 2024. This technology not only enhances performance but also promotes sustainability, aligning with On’s mission to innovate in sportswear design and manufacturing.
