OceanSafe and CHT have partnered to create eco-friendly polyester textiles. OceanSafe, a Swiss company, uses a biodegradable polyester fiber called naNea. They’ve teamed up with CHT, a company based in Tübingen, Germany, to develop dyeing and finishing solutions. These solutions are suitable for textiles made from naNea and can earn Cradle to Cradle certifications.
NaNea is a sustainable alternative to traditional polyester, offering similar performance but with eco-friendly benefits. OceanSafe’s polyester is over 93% biodegradable in marine environments and has received a Gold level Cradle to Cradle certification.
CHT has developed Cooldye, a bio-based dyeing process that works at a lower temperature, saving energy and time. They also offer Bemacron HP-LTD dyes for efficient dyeing and Ecoperl 4 for hydrophobic properties without harmful chemicals.
According to OceanSafe’s founder, Manuel Schweizer, this collaboration demonstrates the importance of working together for sustainability. Their solutions are being showcased at Techtextil 2024 in Frankfurt until April 26.
