Liebherr and Fortescue have announced a partnership to develop and supply zero-emission mining haul trucks. Liebherr will integrate green power technologies from Fortescue Future Industries and Williams Advanced Engineering into its T 264 haul truck. This partnership aims to decarbonize heavy mobile mining equipment, supporting global emissions reduction initiatives.
The project will begin with a two-year development period, during which Fortescue’s battery electric and fuel cell power systems will be integrated into Liebherr’s haul trucks. This initiative aligns with Liebherr’s “Mining Zero Emission Program,” which aims to offer fossil fuel-free mining equipment by 2030. The partnership with Fortescue is a crucial part of this program, focusing on clean energy and sustainable mining.
Fortescue’s CEO highlighted the significance of this contract in achieving net-zero emissions by 2030. The partnership will enable Fortescue to deploy zero-emission haul trucks, enhancing the company’s green energy initiatives.
Liebherr’s CTO emphasized the benefits of integrating clean energy systems into their mining equipment, reinforcing their commitment to zero-emission technologies. This collaboration is expected to create a significant industry demand for zero-emission mining solutions, benefiting both companies and the global mining sector.
