Freitag, a Zurich-based bag manufacturer, has introduced two new bag styles made from discarded airbags and truck tension belts. The new bags, named F700 Arrow and F708 Firebird, come in small and extra-large sizes. These bags maintain the original shapes of the airbags, creating an “airbag effect” that allows them to expand into a tube-like or rounded shape when filled.
The handles are crafted from used truck tension belts, which have become soft and supple over time. Each bag is unique due to the different colors and folding patterns of the airbags used.
Freitag sources the materials from European recycling centers. The airbags come from cars where they were not deployed or failed quality control tests. This makes the bags durable and lightweight.
Additionally, Freitag has developed a repair patch system to extend the lifespan of these bags in case of damage. The new airbag bags are available online and in Freitag outlets from June 12.
