Destinus is constructing Europe’s first commercial private hydrogen testing facility, the Destinus H2 Park, in Payerne, Switzerland. Scheduled to be operational for gas system testing by the third quarter of 2024, and for liquid system testing in 2025, this facility aims to support the development of a hydrogen-powered hypersonic aircraft. This initiative reflects Destinus‘s commitment to advancing hydrogen-related technologies across various sectors, including aerospace, automotive, and research, emphasizing a cross-sectoral approach to innovation.

The company is simultaneously working on the development of an autonomous, hydrogen-powered hypersonic aircraft, expected to reach speeds of Mach 5—five times faster than the speed of sound. This technology could dramatically reduce flight times, with Destinus targeting routes like London to Sydney in just four hours by the 2040s. Destinus also plans to showcase their technology at the ILA Berlin aerospace trade fair in June 2024.

Furthermore, Destinus is expanding its operations beyond Switzerland, with additional sites in Paris, Toulouse, Madrid, Germany, and the Netherlands. In April 2023, the company expanded its capabilities by acquiring OPRA, a Dutch gas turbine specialist, now operating as Destinus Energy.

This development is part of a broader movement in Switzerland towards innovative and sustainable technology solutions, with Destinus playing a pivotal role in harnessing hydrogen’s potential for high-speed, sustainable aviation.
