The countdown to the grand opening of ABB’s state-of-the-art global competence center for power electronics in Untersiggenthal, Switzerland is underway. This remarkable project, with an investment of over 40 million Swiss Francs along the Limmat River, is nearly complete, just 20 months after breaking ground. The official inauguration of the multifunctional building is set for November 16.

As a leader in energy-efficient and sustainable technologies, ABB has made a strong commitment to sustainability with the construction of this facility at their largest Swiss location. The building adheres to the Minergie standard, utilizing more than 2200 cubic meters of recycled concrete, effectively storing additional CO2. Notably, the heating and cooling of the building are powered by heat pumps, using groundwater as an eco-friendly resource.

Furthermore, environmental efforts extend to the building’s surroundings. The project includes the installation of 17 nesting boxes for swifts, offering a new home to these fascinating birds. The landscaping, in collaboration with ProNatura, includes planting native shrubs and trees, creating a haven for wildlife. A pond will be built to support amphibians, enhancing the local ecosystem.

In a world where sustainability is paramount, ABB’s “Emotion” building stands as a testament to modern ecological practices, combining innovation with environmental stewardship. This project is in line with ABB’s core values and showcases their commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.
