In Valais, the BlueArk Challenge has once again spurred innovation in water management by awarding CHF 10,000 each to two groundbreaking projects. The 2024 edition highlighted an AI-based decision support tool and a novel infiltration box, both designed to improve water management under challenging conditions. These tools were developed by the IG group/RWB and WSP|BG, focusing on effective water supply maintenance and rainwater management on slopes.
The AI module, named I’Aquaspy, created by IG group and RWB Valais SA, helps water network managers handle crises like electrical shortages or pipeline failures. By simulating various scenarios, the module enhances crisis response and preventative planning, optimizing network investments and emergency decision-making.
Conversely, WSP|BG Engineers SA introduced a compact, durable infiltration box to better manage water on sloped terrains. This solution helps mitigate landslide risks and runoff, proving ideal for use along road shoulders to facilitate water treatment and infiltration.
These innovations not only received financial backing but will also gain from expert collaboration and resources provided by sponsors such as OIKEN and the Swiss Association of Water Protection Professionals (VSA). The support aims to adapt these solutions to Switzerland’s varied landscapes, ensuring their implementation in real-world scenarios and promoting more sustainable water management practices.
