Axpo Holding AG, a Swiss power producer and energy trader, announced plans to construct a 10-MWp solar power plant in Glarus Sued. This will be Axpo’s sixth alpine solar project in Switzerland. The site for this new solar array is in the same municipality as Axpo’s existing 2.2-MWp plant, operational since August 2022.

The planned solar farm will be situated around 1,500 meters above sea level, covering about 120,000 square meters. Approximately 36,000 solar panels, three meters off the ground and tilted up to 70 degrees, will be installed. The plant is expected to produce about 13 GWh of electricity each year once operational.

This project is a key part of Axpo’s “solar offensive” strategy. The company aims to expand its solar power capacity to over 1.2 GW by 2030. Axpo intends to reach this goal by setting up solar panels in residential areas and throughout the Swiss Alps. This initiative underscores Switzerland’s commitment to enhancing sustainable energy production and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
