Innosuisse, the Swiss Innovation Agency, is backing smartwindows, a St.GallenBodenseeArea window manufacturer, for its development of an environmentally friendly plastic window, the classico model, which has earned the eco1 certification for its sustainability merits. This certification highlights the window’s innovative and eco-friendly design, making it the first of its kind in Switzerland.
smartwindows, located in Thurgau canton, intends to use the new funding to advance its Window 4 Zero Emission program. The goal is to increase the recycled material content in window profiles to 80%, aiming to cut CO2 emissions from residential buildings by 10,000 tons annually. This effort is expected to prevent 60,000 tons of gray emissions, contributing to the establishment of a circular economy in the Swiss window market.
The classico window, notable for its 70% recycled material composition, is designed to be reused up to eight times. It meets the stringent requirements of ecobau and Minergie-Eco standards, aligning with the ecoBKP and ecoDevis priorities, setting a benchmark for sustainable construction and materials reuse in the industry.
